Betsson shuts down Betsafe B2C brand in USA?

Betsson, one of the major online betting operators, has announced its decision to exit the United States market. The company revealed that it will cease the activities of its Betsafe brand in the state of Colorado by the end of September. The company operates in markets such as Europe, including Sweden, Italy, Germany, and the Baltics, as well as several regions in Latin America and other emerging markets.

Betsafe’s entry into Colorado took place in 2022, through a 10-year agreement with Dostal Alley Casino, marking Betsson’s debut in the American market. Despite expectations, the company did not expand its operations to other states and, in its financial reports, did not disclose the specific results of this operation.

From 6 September, Betsafe will no longer accept new registrations and deposits into betting accounts in Colorado. On 16 September, players will no longer be able to place new bets, and everyone will have until 27 September to withdraw any remaining money in their accounts. The full closure of customer accounts will take place on 20 September, signaling the end of Betsson’s B2C activities in the US.

Despite the exit from the American market, Betsson will continue to be present in other regions of the Americas. The company maintains operations in Canada, where the Betsafe brand is active in the province of Ontario, and Peru, where Betsson most recently launched its operations. In addition, Betsson is seeking a licence to operate in Brazil.

As well as theses changes, Betsson has just announced a new partnership with Premier Padel. The operator has been one of the main supporters of the padel, and this new agreement highlights its objective of promoting the sport at an international level.

Betsson has not yet clarified what will happen to the long-term or futures bets that have been placed for events that will take place only after the closure of Betsafe’s operations in the US. At the moment, the operator’s FAQ section does not offer additional information about the exit, but the company advises its customers to contact customer support in case of doubts.
