Internet service providers in Australia urged to block further offshore websites operating illegally

The Australian Communications and Media Authority found four more gambling sites operating in breach of the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act

ACMA The Australian Communications and Media Authority has requested Australian internet service providers to halt operations of four further illegal offshore gambling website.

The rules pertaining to the blocking of illegal gambling operators came into effect in 2017 in Australia and back then 130 websites were stopped from operating in the market.

An investigation lead the ACMA to four gaming websites named Bao Casino, Pokie Place, Reels of Joy, and Ozwin Casino. The ban came after several issues were flagged that these casinos were operating in breach of the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority said “Following numerous complaints about these services, the ACMA undertook investigations which found them to be operating in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.”

In Australia the way authorities enforce illegal gambling is by simply blocking the website which is operating illegally.

Warning messages when players try to access the site are displayed on their screens to alert the users. Users can still play on these websites but at their own risk as these operators will fail with consumer protection risking players to loose their money. ?SiGMA News has been reporting the continuous efforts on behalf of the Australian government to control unlicensed gambling sites and back in November reported that the ACMA blocked another 263 illegal gambling websites.
