M&A: Better Collective acquires Copenhagen-based Tipsbladet

Affiliate consortium Better Collective has successfully acquired Tipsbladet.dk, a prominent soccer media outlet based in Denmark. The acquisition, valued at €6.5 million, will be disbursed in three installments and financed through cash reserves. Better Collective anticipates that the post-synergy EBITDA multiple for 2024 will fall below 5x, with no impact on the financial targets for 2023 due to this acquisition.

Effective 2 October, Tipsbladet.dk will officially integrate into Better Collective, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark

Premium digital sports media aggregrator

Jesper S?gaard, co-founder and CEO of Better Collective, expressed his thoughts: “This acquisition aligns seamlessly with our vision of becoming the foremost digital sports media conglomerate and our strategy of acquiring robust media brands with a dedicated following. I eagerly anticipate extending a warm welcome to the committed editorial team at Tipsbladet, believing that together we can further enhance the content that has enthralled Danish sports enthusiasts for years.”

Tipsbladet ranks among the oldest soccer publications in the Nordics. Over time, it has evolved from a print magazine to a digital platform, emerging as a leading source for soccer-related content, encompassing news, articles, match previews, betting tips, videos, and analysis. With a monthly audience of around 6.8 million visitors and a substantial social media presence, Tipsbladet.dk’s digital edition has become the preferred destination for soccer enthusiasts.

Employees will merge

Henrik Stegger Nielsen, the former owner of Tipsbladet, shared his sentiments: “Since my acquisition of Tipsbladet in 2007, I have tirelessly worked to transform it into a healthy and sustainable business. I have succeeded, and I can scarcely envision a better custodian for Tipsbladet than Better Collective. I am confident that they will nurture and, with their ambitions and expertise, further develop Tipsbladet.”

Nielsen and all current Tipsbladet employees will join Better Collective.

SEO will boost audience growth

Allan Olsen, Editor in Chief at Tipsbladet, commented: “This is a momentous occasion for Tipsbladet and its staff. While we have experienced substantial growth and impressive financial results in a challenging media landscape, Better Collective’s involvement will undoubtedly amplify Tipsbladet’s expansion. We will continue delivering compelling football narratives, but with Better Collective in our corner, we can extend our content’s reach across numerous platforms and engage a broader audience.” Better Collective confirms that this acquisition will increase the company’s presence in Denmark, rendering it a more appealing partner for advertisers in the Danish market. The experienced editorial team at Tipsbladet offers a strong foundation for expanding media offerings across diverse platforms. Better Collective intends to leverage its technological and search engine optimization (SEO) proficiency to grow the audience, affirming its commitment to investing in the advancement and expansion of Tipsbladet.dk.

M&A momentum

In the presentation of its Q2 results last month, the affiliate group hinted at the potential for further M&A deals. CFO Flemming Pedersen remarked during the earnings call, “Our financial capacity now exceeds €150 million, providing us with substantial resources for broadening our operations.”

Q2 revenue reached €78.1 million, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 39.4 percent.

Earlier in September, Better Collective also acquired Torcedores.com, a leading Brazilian online sports media platform.

Better Collective A/S (BETCO.ST) is currently trading at SEK268.50 (+1.13 percent).
