Maryland to consider 10 online sports betting applications Thursday

The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency will meet on Thursday, Oct. 27th to review 10 applications for an online sports betting license in the state.

Those ten include BetMGM Maryland, DraftKings, Betfair, PointsBet and Rush Street Interactive.?

If approved, they would go forward for a hearing with the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission on Nov. 21st and mobile bets are likely to go live by early December at the latest.?

Maryland voters approved both retail and online sportsbooks in November 2020 and brick and mortar sportsbooks opened in the state’s casinos last year.?

However, the state has dragged on issuing mobile licenses as it was seeking ways to attract minority, or female-owned companies, The Washington Post reports.?

In September, Maryland casinos generated $67.9 million in revenue, while bricks and mortar sports wagering totalled $31.4 million.?

Other names putting their hats in the ring are Betfred, FanDuel, Fanatics, Parx, Barstool Sportsbook and BetRivers.?
