Esports leaders in the Philippines aim?to combine gaming, academic excellence among youth?

Dark League Studios, one of the prominent figures in the Esports industry in the Philippines, held the Estudyante Esports (Student Esports) SumEEt at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila on Saturday. 

In his keynote speech, Bobby Rosales, chairman and co-founder of Dark League Studios and vice chairman, said that the summit is a groundbreaking initiative aiming to integrate gaming with academic excellence. 

Rosales emphasized the significance of engaging the younger generation in responsible Esports participation, stating, “Today’s young generation has found a new form of entertainment available in the digital world.” 

He underscored the importance of harnessing the passion and energy of students towards the growth of Esports, adding, “Properly harnessed, this can only lead to responsibly growing esports.” 

Estudyante Esports aimed to revolutionize the landscape of Esports in the Philippines by providing a platform for students to excel both academically and in the gaming arena.  

The role of educational institutions?

Rosales also highlighted the role of educational institutions in nurturing future Esports competitors, noting the recent victories of Philippine teams in international tournaments as evidence of local talent quality.  

He emphasized the need for schools to adapt their curriculum to include Esports, creating new career opportunities for students. 

Addressing pressing concerns?

Acknowledging the concerns regarding gaming-related health issues, Rosales announced partnerships aimed at addressing these concerns.  

“We will continue to seek partners who will share our objectives in providing a balanced approach to gaming,” he said. 

Government, industry leaders, and students participate?

More than 100 schools from across the Philippines took part in the summit.  

It was attended by notable figures in the sports and gaming industries, including Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard Bachmann and representatives from major partners such as Smart Communications and PLDT.  

“We embrace technology and share the responsibility, together with academia, of bringing Esports and academic excellence together,” Rosales said.
