News of the closures?came out?when a Genting cardroom manager posted a?status on his Facebook?page stating a farewell message on?Tuesday.?
“Well, it’s been emotional. Thank you to all our poker players, hope you have a great experience. Thoughts to all my colleagues (family) that didn’t deserve this (although in current climate it was kind of expected) you are all superstars and proud to have had you in our team. Onwards and Upwards. PS anyone hiring?”?Said the?Genting?cardroom manager who wishes to remain anonymous.?

The closure of the long-running Genting poker rooms will also bring an end to the?long-running?The Genting Poker Series (GPS)?since its?launching in 2012.?
Jeff Kimber, Poker pro and circuit regular,?gave his remarks?on the impact Genting’s closing will?have on the British poker scene on Facebook, saying,?“Very sad for the Genting poker staff, some good ones gone there. GPS events were great back in the day. Trips to Sheffield, Birmingham, and?Southend?will be missed,”?
Last week,?The?Genting?announced the cessation of?three of its UK casinos, including properties in?Torquay, Bristol and Margate.?
According to Poker News, The Genting Resorts World Casino in Birmingham is losing?98 employees with between 20 and 50 jobs lost at every Genting casino in the UK.??
Genting Malaysia?Berhad?is expected to cut around 3,000 jobs after the operator decided to downsize operations in the region, news reported by Bloomberg.?
The?President and COO of Genting UK,?Paul?Willcock, wrote a statement to his employees, saying, “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented challenges. It has had a huge financial impact on our business and caused significant uncertainty for the foreseeable future. I am therefore forced to contemplate some very difficult options to ensure survival.”?
